Parental Alienation Awareness Day (K. Diotte)

 

 

 

Councillor K. Diotte, on behalf of City Council, recognized April 25 as Parental Alienation Awareness Day, in cities and countries around the world. In Edmonton, there is a group of dedicated citizens called the Parental Alienation Awareness Network of Alberta, who work to help raise this awareness in our community and ensures every child has the opportunity to have a meaningful and loving relationship with both parents.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sexual Exploitation Week of Awareness (A. Sohi)

 

 

 

Councillor A. Sohi, on behalf of City Council, recognized the proclamation of April 22-26, as Sexual Exploitation Week of Awareness in Edmonton, to highlight the crime of sexual exploitation and its impacts on its victims and community. The Edmonton Sexual Exploitation Working Group has organized a number of events throughout the week to help prevent sexual exploitation, and support victims to heal from the harm of its effects. Edmontonians are encouraged to wear orange this week and work towards a city that is free of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Annual Community Traffic Safety Award (K. Krushell/K. Leibovici)

 

 

 

Councillors K. Krushell and K. Leibovici, on behalf of City Council, recognized that April marks the 5th anniversary of the International Conference on Urban Traffic Safety, in Edmonton. The 2013 Community Traffic Safety Award was presented to J. DeBoor, in recognition of his personal commitment to traffic safety to Edmonton Communities. He was nominated by the Edmonton Police Service, North Division, where he has been the volunteer Speed Watch Coordinator for the past 4 years and has dedicated over 3000 hours of service.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Greg Christenson Recognition (D. Loken)

 

 

 

Councillor D. Loken, on behalf of City Council, recognized G. Christenson, President and co-owner of Christenson Developments. In an effort to help raise awareness of the effects of Alzheimer's and improve the quality of life for those living with the disease, he got involved with the Pro-Am Face Off for Alzheimer's hockey tournament four years ago, which has raised more than $3 million for the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, in the past three years.

1) That Edmonton City Council sponsor the following resolution to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities:

Whereas the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal to honour peace officers was created by the Chancellery of Honours (Governor General of Canada) in 2004; and

Whereas the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal to honour peace officers is not currently available to municipally employed peace officers;

Be it resolved that the Federation of Canadian Municipalities write the Governor General of Canada (Chancellery of Honours) requesting that the Peace Officers Exemplary Service Medal Regulations be amended to allow municipally employed peace officers to be eligible for the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal.

2) That the Mayor write a letter to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, attaching a copy of this resolution.
