COUNCILLOR INQUIRIES

3.1

Traffic Light Locations (S. Mandel)

Recently the City of Edmonton installed a traffic light at 104 Street and 104 Avenue, which means almost every block along 103A/104 Avenue between Jasper Avenue and 124 Street has a traffic light.  I believe that this creates a tremendous amount of frustration.

I would like Administration to provide a report with the following information:

1. The logic of why we would have a traffic light at that location.

2. The logic under which the City of Edmonton makes decisions about traffic lights.

3. What is the generally accepted principles in other cities for traffic light installation.

4. A comparative analysis of the number of traffic lights in our City to other cities of our size in Canada.

5. Given our driving record is there any correlation between the number of traffic lights and accidents and/or driver frustration.

6. How are lights synchronized?
