COUNCILLOR INQUIRIES

3.1

Neighbourhood Renewal on 122 Avenue in Westwood
(B. Esslinger)

Westwood neighbourhood is scheduled for neighbourhood reconstruction in 2015 with a completion date of 2017. However, 122 Avenue is being removed from the scope of the neighbourhood renewal. It is being done as a stand-alone collector renewal project with a tentative start date of 2017 and will require additional public consultation from communities which was a surprise to the community.

I have heard concerns from residents about the need to separate these two projects, and there has been confusion about timing and if decisions related to the neighbourhood renewal project (i.e. type of lighting) would continue in the 122 Avenue project. I would like to know what is the communication plan for the community; how will the Transportation Department engage residents to ensure that there is continuity with both projects and how we can consider joint community consultation on the projects and coordination of these projects to minimize disruption in the neighbourhood due to construction.

3.2

Sidewalk Clearing (D. Iveson)

I continue to receive concerns from citizens about the City's performance with regards to snow removal from sidewalks that are the City's responsibility (e.g. next to parks and City facilities).

I would be grateful if Administration could provide information on the following:

1) Does Administration measure performance relative to the 48 hour bylaw requirement for clearing of sidewalks that are the City's responsibility? If it is measured, what has been our recent performance?

2) What are the challenges and barriers to meeting the 48 hour bylaw requirement?

3) Are there any policy, design standard, equipment and/or resource level changes that are needed to meet the 48 hour standard?
